There he became close with the brothers of Phi Eta Psi and pledged in the fall of 1980, crossing that December on the Treacherous 12 line.
He earned his degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing in December 1983. Professionally, Steven has worked in both retail and financial services, ultimately building more than 30 years of experience in the financial services industry. As Past President, he continues to offer leadership, mentorship, and historical perspective, affirming his lifelong commitment to “bleed Green and Gold” and to serve Phi Eta Psi until the day he dies.
Edward Evans
1st Vice President, Vice Archigeus
Edward Evans was born in Detroit, Michigan, and raised in Los Angeles, California, though he spent every summer back in Detroit with his great-grandparents. Those formative years—grounded in faith, family, and community—shaped his values and inspired his passion for service. His great-grandfather, a pastor, and his great-grandmother, a woman of great wisdom, taught him the importance of empathy, advocacy, and using his voice to uplift others.
He graduated from Crenshaw High School and began his college journey at Eastern Washington University, where he played football and became the founding president of the Theta Chapter of Phi Eta Psi Fraternity. He later completed his degree in Radio, Television, and Film at California State University, Los Angeles.
His professional career has spanned radio and television broadcasting, where he has had the honor of producing public affairs programming, hosting talk shows, and reporting on major events—including the World Series. He also served as Editorial Manager at KHJ-TV and produced the special “Watts 20 Years Later,” which brought together key voices to reflect on the social unrest and community healing.
Alongside his broadcasting work, he has led radio sales teams, mentored aspiring media professionals, and served as president of the Black Media Network. His passion for service extends to the classroom and the field—he has served on the board of Century Community Charter School and coached youth and high school sports for over 25 years. Through it all, he has remained committed to advocating for justice, mentoring youth, and building spaces where Black voices and stories are heard and respected.
Dwayne Mims
2nd Vice President, Vice Archigeus
Born and raised on the Northwest side of Detroit, Michigan, Dwayne Mims’ story is one rooted in resilience, family, and service. As the eighth of 17 children born to John and Sallie Mims, Dwayne grew up in a humble three-bedroom bungalow filled with the energy, lessons, and bonds of 10 brothers and 6 sisters. The values instilled in that close-knit household would shape the course of his life.
In 1979, he was inducted into the brotherhood of Phi Eta Psi Fraternity, Inc., pledging on May 20th of that year while pursuing his degree at Wayne State University. His commitment to scholarship and service ran parallel with his professional journey. In 1986, he began a meaningful career with the State of Michigan at Maxey Boy’s Training School, dedicating himself to the rehabilitation and guidance of young men, helping them find purpose and restore their lives.
In 1985, he married Sandra P. Carter, beginning a lifelong partnership centered in love, faith, and family. Together, they raised three sons—Dwayne Jr., Jared, and Caleb—first in Detroit and later in Southfield, where they moved in 2000. Their home became a place of support, laughter, and deep-rooted values passed from one generation to the next.
After 34 years of service to the State of Michigan, he retired on November 1, 2020. In this new chapter, he and his wife have embraced travel and adventure, exploring new places and creating new memories. Alongside their traveling, he has deepened his engagement with Phi Eta Psi, giving back to the fraternity that shaped his early adult life. His passion now includes helping to grow and strengthen the brotherhood for future generations.
Henry L. Stewart
Director of Membership, Authentes
Henry is a proud graduate of Eastern Michigan University and pledged this great brotherhood in April 1983. As an undergraduate Imp, he took on leadership roles that prepared him for lifelong service, including serving as Assistant Dean, Dean, and Vice President of his chapter. His passion for Phi Eta Psi runs deep—not only in his own journey but also in his family, as his two younger brothers, Vernon Stewart Sr. and Sean Young, are also Imps.
He served on the Membership Committee, where he worked to create a structured approach to membership growth by establishing four key coordinator positions: Alumni Chapter Coordinator (Joe Glenn), Community College Coordinator (Open), HBCU Coordinator (Eddie Yancey III), and Undergraduate Chapter Coordinator (Dwayne Mims). With these leadership roles in place, they are building the necessary framework to expand their reach, engage more young men, and strengthen the fraternity across multiple campuses and communities.
Additionally, he has been working to forge partnerships that will enhance their national presence and impact. Move-in Day Mafia, an organization that provides assistance to HBCU students during move-in day and includes a mentorship program specifically targeting Black males, allows Phi Eta Psi to establish a meaningful presence at HBCUs. He has also engaged with Phired Up, a company specializing in fraternity growth, to develop a targeted expansion plan for 2-5 new undergraduate chapters annually.
Over the past three years, his work has included leading efforts for national recognition by reaching out to NIC, using his personal network to secure a website developer, Ms. Dequiana Brooks, to assist with launching their fraternity’s most recently updated website, actively serving on the 2024 Conclave Committee, ensuring the successful event in Flint, Michigan, serving as Dean for four new Imps in 2023, and personally recruiting several new members including Darren Neely Jr., Rodrick Thomas, and Eddie Yancey III.
