National Executive Leadership Team

Born in Detroit, Michigan, where I reside currently. I am divorced with two grown children and a 7-month-old granddaughter. I attended Detroit Public Schools from Kindergarten through High school.

After graduating from High school in 1979, I attended Washtenaw Community College while living on the campus of Eastern Michigan University. During that time, I became friends with several brothers of Phi Eta Psi Fraternity. I hung out with the brothers so much that other students thought I had already pledged and crossed.

I pledged in the Fall of 1980 and crossed December 6, 1980, line name is the Treacherous 12 Terrorists of Devastating Debonair. 1 was number 5 and president of our line. After crossing, I was elected as chapter Historian and a year later became step coordinator.

I graduated in December of 1983 with a degree in Business Administration, concentrating in Marketing. I worked in retail sales for Nestle foods for three years, banking as an Assistant Manager for two years until I found my calling in financial services, where I'm currently employed with over 30 years of experience.

Being out of college, I would regularly attend EMU Black Alumni parties and other social events in the Detroit and Ypsilanti areas. I would always run into classmates in other fraternities and sororities, and also the fact that we were so popular.

I've been active on an Alumni and National level beginning in 1989 when I reserved a hotel conference room and invited Brothers to attend to make it happen. The meeting led to starting a new Executive Board, myself as Treasurer, providing leadership and guidance to our growing undergrad chapters. Several years later, the Detroit Alumni Chapter evolved from brothers coming together.

In the year 2000, Sands Derrick Williams aka Slick Rick passed away, and a lot of brothers from the Delta chapter attended his homegoing service. From that gathering, we started a Phi Eta Psi EMU Alumni chapter which later became the Metro-West Alumni chapter. Also, in the year 2000, we reconnected with the brothers from Indiana and scheduled a conclave at Central Michigan University. That led to National Elections and a new executive board with my role as National Treasurer from 2002 to 2006. I became the interim President from 2006 to 2010 and National Treasurer from 2010 to 2012.

I've participated in many community projects with Detroit, Metro-West, and Indiana Alumni chapters. With Detroit Alumni, I volunteered on Detroit Community Clean-up Day. I have participated in the Breast Cancer walk for the past several years with Indiana alumni. I volunteered as a marshal for the Circle City Classic. Our responsibility will be to continue following the structure and guidelines set forth by past elected board members, to provide leadership and be role models for our brotherhood, and to increase our community involvement.

Basically, I bleed green and gold and will always remain active in some capacity.

If a task is once begun ...

Phi Eta Psi - 'til the day one dies!

Mark is a lifelong resident of Indianapolis, Indiana and matriculated from Indianapolis Public Schools to Indiana University in 1977. In April 1978, Mark was inducted into the fraternal fold. Serving in several undergraduate offices for Phi Eta Psi, Mark was also a founder of the IU Black Student Union and a Resident Assistant. Mark possesses a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Indiana University in Liberal Studies. Mark’s professional career spans 40 years of executive level sales, entrepreneurship, and business leadership experience. His career was focused in the Office Technology and IT Services industry. Mark has a wide range of experience in mergers and acquisitions and has served as CEO in two companies that he led to a successful sale to both public and privately owned companies. Mark also has been involved in Christian missions in Caracol Haiti for over 15 years. Mark is married to Shelley, his wife of 38 years and has 2 children and 5 grandchildren. Mark has a passion for his family, his faith, golf, outdoor life, and lifelong learning.

I currently work as a Senior Account Executive for Timberland, where I've been employed for the past 11+ years. I previously held a similar position (Territory Manager) with Kenneth Cole Productions for nine years. I have held positions in outside sales with The Taubman Company as a Specialty Retail Agent for two years and, prior to that, held multiple sales to Managerial positions with Sibley's Shoes of Detroit, MI.

I attended Eastern Michigan University in the fall of 1976 and became familiar with Phi Eta Psi Fraternity, Inc as a first-semester freshman. At that time, I had no intentions of pledging anything, but I was approached by another organization in the Fall of 1978. When I rejected their offer, I was told that they didn't want to see me on a "Phi Eta Psi" line. That became a challenge and motivating force for me. I already knew brothers from the previous Neophyte line and was roommates with the current President. I crossed Delta Chapter on November 17, 1978! As a Neophyte, I was elected Treasurer and appointed Co-Chairman of our Ball committee.

I eventually left Eastern Michigan, got married, and decided to return to school while working full-time at Sibley's. I graduated in December of 1994 Magna Cum Laude from the University of Detroit Mercy with a BSBA in Marketing. Even during this time, I stayed in contact with Brothers from Delta Chapter as well as Mu Chapter, and we eventually formed an Alumni Chapter.

I'm a firm believer in not starting something you can't finish! This fraternity has so many brothers that have had positive experiences and for "whatever reason," don't want to invest in making this organization successful. I'm pledging myself to bring back brothers that want to see the fraternity continue to grow and become one of the premier Black Greek organizations in the country.

I graduated from Flint Northern HS in June 1966. Attended Flint Jr. College. Pledged Phi Eta Psi Fraternity, Inc. and crossed the burning sands on November 29, 1966. "Lead Dog" Frat name "Deacon Rawls."

I served three years in the US Army where I achieved the rank of Specialist 5. I retired after thirty-five years as a Machine Repairman at AC Spark Plug, Division of General Motors. Personally, I am divorced with one daughter, Courtney (Brian) Dunnville and one son, Brandon (Kumi) Rawls. I volunteer for Big Brothers, Boy Scouts, and Amer. Additionally, I am mentoring youth, have been an active member of the Flint Sunrise Rotary Club and was Chairman of the Deacon Board at St. James CME Church. Past Fraternity roles include President, Treasurer, Corresponding Secretary and Recording Secretary.

I will always continue to do the best I can to make this Fraternity a "Force To Be Reckoned With."

I was born and raised in Buffalo, NY. Upon graduating from Bennett High School in Buffalo, NY, I received a scholarship to General Motors Institute (GMI) in Flint, MI. I was one of the first black high school students to be sponsored by the Harrison Radiator Division of General Motors. My higher education at GMI (now Kettering Institute) in Flint, MI began during August 1976. Once on campus I noticed the brothers of Phi Eta Psi Fraternity, Beta Chapter and was very impressed by their comradery, confidence, cool dispositions, and particularly, their intelligence. Shortly after meeting these young men I decided to pledge the fraternity along with 4 other pledgees during my second session as a freshman. Our name line was the ‘Ebony Elite’ and I was the head of our line. All 5 members of the ‘Ebony Elite’ crossed the Burning Sands and were initiated into Phi Eta Psi in April 1977. As a full-fledged IMP I held the offices of Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer during my college career at GMI. In June 1981 I earned a Bachelor of Industrial Administration degree from GMI and began my career in accounting as an Internal Auditor/Staff Accountant for Harrison Radiator Division, Lockport, NY. My career with GM ended not long after I received the calling to the ministry of the gospel of the Kingdom of God and its Christ, Jesus during August 1983. I have served the body of Christ in various capacities ever since then including Associate Minister, Youth Pastor, Senior Pastor and Teacher, Author, and Evangelist. While serving as an ordained minister I founded Kingdom First Accounting & Tax Services during 1984. As a Public Accountant and Registered Paid Tax Preparer I continue to perform accounting, bookkeeping, tax preparation, and other business-related services for my clients. My clients include individuals, small business owners, nonprofit organizations. It was during May 2020, at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, that I decided to reach out to my sands Nigel Pennycooke and brother Lance Porter, a neophyte who I helped pledge at Beta Chapter. It is one of the most positive things that arose because of the pandemic! Through reacquainting myself with these two brothers I was motivated to reconnect with Phi Eta Psi Fraternity after nearly a forty-year hiatus. I am excited and reenergized by being active with my fellow IMPs again! I believe that my forty plus years in accounting has taught me how to be a competent, detailed oriented, reliable, and trustworthy professional. As the National Tamias (aka Treasurer), I will utilize this vast experience to help edify our outstanding fraternity. My primary goal is to continue the tradition of integrity and high moral character that this distinguished national office has demonstrated throughout the years.
