A Message from the Immediate Past Grand Archigeus

As the Grand Archigeus of Phi Eta Psi Fraternity, Inc., I believe that scholarship, brotherhood, service and leadership are hallmarks of a successful fraternity.  We must pursue a formula that has an ultimate goal of achieving excellence.  The tenets of commitment, integrity, loyalty, character, honor, vision and a belief in God are essential. “When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child;
but when I became a man, I put away childish things.”
                                                                                                1 Corinthians 13:11

    In these challenging times, we, that are bound as brothers must embrace the task and responsibilities of leadership.  In 1965, eight young African-American men were so moved.  Founded in the midst of the American civil rights movement, Phi Eta Psi gave birth to new hope, inspiration and support for young black college men.  Inspired by many leaders of that period, our founders realized that the true value to our community is predicated on the service rendered to others.

True leadership must endeavor to live as an example of integrity, commitment and dedicated effort.  We are to be upstanding men that are willing to put forth the effort to make a difference.  It is our duty as a fraternity to lead by example, so that others will be inspired to follow.  It is our responsibility to provide mentoring to our young men and young women.  We shall continue to engage in initiatives that are responsive to the needs of our communities.  With excellence as our goal, Phi Eta Psi is poised to make a greater impact on the world.

Webster's dictionary states that “accountability” is an adverb, which means it describes an act, or an action. It is also considered a noun, which may be interchanged for the word “responsibility.” In this context, accountability represents a conduct in which one accepts full responsibility for one's actions. In addition, accountability means fulfilling one's commitment to a given purpose or activity by giving the maximum of one's dedicated and determined efforts to meet and achieve ones stated goals and objectives.

     Accountability is a key principle to achieving success. A common challenge to any organization is insuring its members share this realization.   We, as the officers and members of Phi Eta Psi Fraternity, Inc. remain accountable to each other and responsible to fulfilling the commitment we made when we became members.

     Are we, the Phi Eta Psi Fraternity brotherhood ready to accept the challenge of accountability? We must ask ourselves, will we continue to move forward with dedicated participation, accepting fulfilling the responsibilities of our commitments? In common terms, come hell or high water, can we count on each other to give our best to complete our accepted responsibilities? The answer should be a resounding “YES!”

     Let each of us endeavor to give our best to the continued and honored legacy of Phi Eta Psi Fraternity, Inc. and insure that we fulfill our mission to be “the best fraternity in the world!”
